Recently, prior to the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s visit to US, in a surprising move, Pakistan government forces arrested the global terrorist declared, Chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hafiz Saeed for the record eighth time.
Was it due to the fear of FATF or was it done to create a better environment for the Imran Khan’s visit? Well, it certainly looked like latter one but the Trump administration had their doubts “We’ve seen this happen multiple times in the past. And we have been looking for sustained and concrete steps, not just window dressing”.
Hafiz Muhammed Saeed, born on June 05, 1950 is a Pakistani Islamist militant who had co-founded LeT and Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD), operating mainly from Pakistan. Considered to the brain behind the 26/11, Mumbai attack, the United States, in April 2012 had announced a bounty of $10 million on Saeed. In Mumbai attack 166 civilians were killed which included six Americans. For India Saeed is a most wanted terrorist because of LeT’s involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the 2006 Mumbai train bombings, and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. Apart from being in the most wanted list of NIA, he is also an UN designated terrorist. LeT has not only been banned by India only but has also been recognised as a terrorist organisation by The United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Russia and Australia.
India has been demanding that Pakistan should handover Saeed for trial but Pakistan has always denied the issue based on some or the other excuses. However, it seems, now is the time to end the drama being played around this global terrorist. America’s efforts remain doubtful in arresting or neutralising Saeed, even after placing a bounty of $10 million in 2012.
It looks both the countries are upto some game. If Osama Bin Laden could be found and executed why not Hafiz Saeed, who unlike Laden, is moving around freely threatening not only India but also Pakistan, the very place he has been using for his nefarious ideas. Is it because only six Americans were killed in Mumbai attack in comparison to 2977 in 9/11? Tweet by President Donald Trump about the arrest, if not anything, but was certainly a joke.
After a ten year search, the so-called “mastermind” of the Mumbai Terror attacks has been arrested in Pakistan. Great pressure has been exerted over the last two years to find him!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 17, 2019
Which great pressure is President Trump talking about? Hafiz Saeed is not a “so called mastermind” but he is the “mastermind and the executioner of not only the 26/11 Mumbai attack which killed 166 civilians including six American citizens, but many other terror attacks in India.
So, now is the time that people stop playing games and do something concrete to bring this international criminal to the books lest he continues espousing terror and exporting his mercenaries to India and call for Jihad against US. His current arrest for the eighth should not be another sham just like the previous ones. And to do that America has to exert the required pressure on Imran Khan, as India is apprehensive about the end result of this arrest, which is conveyed in tweet by the MEA spokesperson.
Raveesh Kumar, MEA, on Pakistan arrests Hafiz Saeed: The question is whether this time it will be more than a cosmetic step, whether Hafiz Saeed will be tried & sentenced for his terrorist activities. We hope that this time Hafiz Saeed will be brought to justice https://t.co/hd1VgiPQ5v— ANI (@ANI) July 18, 2019
David Coleman Headley’s account, recorded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Investigation Agency of India, leaves no doubt about the Saeed’s role in the planning and execution of the attacks. India has repeatedly provided volumes of evidences to Pakistan but it has always been insufficient to nail the global terrorist and hence as always he is freed by the Court of Law, the way it is put by Pakistan.
Now that charade has to end. Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist and not a professor, as claimed by him. UN has exposed him by designating him as a global terrorist. US has placed $10 million bounty on him. India has provided sufficient evidence against him. So, the drama has to end and Pakistan has to indict Hafiz Saeed for his wrong doings. Sooner it happens the better it is.
